3) Chicago Bulls bound to breakout in the second half

Coby White, Point Guard

One player that a lot of Bulls fans thought would already have broken through this season in a big and consistent way is the second-year former North Carolina Tar Heels 20-year-old point guard Coby White. This 6-foot-5 and 195 pound floor general is having some struggles at times this season, but showing maturity in other areas.

With the highs and lows of White’s game in the first half of the season, there are a lot of questions emerging as to what the front office will do at the point guard position from here on out. Could the likes of first-year executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley make any moves to upgrade the young core at the point guard position ahead of the March 25 trade deadline?

That move might make sense for this young core moving forward.

But if Karnisovas and the Bulls do at help at point guard in the next few weeks, it doesn’t mean that White’s role in this building young core is over. He would likely just serve in more of a combo guard role, as Tomas Satoransky does at this point, than he did at the outset of this season.

White is playing well in certain respects, but it feels like only a matter of time before his offensive game really finds its rhythm. That’s what happened for White just before the COVID-19 pandemic-induced pause last season.

Through 34 games played for the Bulls this season, White averaged around 16 points per game, five rebounds, and five assists. And he’s shot a decent 42.0 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 89.6 percent from the free-throw line.
