1. Anthony Edwards, Shooting Guard

While LaMelo might be the consensus atop most draft boards at this point in time, there was a point when the former Georgia Bulldogs 6-foot-5 shooting guard Anthony Edwards was the best. It’s hard to know exactly where Edwards falls now since his inconsistent production from his true freshman campaign in Athens places him.

Edwards was still a member of the 2019-20 All-SEC First Team, the SEC Newcomer of the Year, and a member of the 2019-20 All-SEC Freshman First Team. The season ended prematurely for Edwards and the Dawgs in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Just before the start of the more important games of the SEC Tournament, and Selection Sunday, the college hoops season was cancelled.

Nonetheless, Edwards played in 32 games during his true freshman campaign with the Dawgs. In that span of games, he averaged 19.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks. He shot a subpar 40.2 percent from the field, 29.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.

There’s a lot of potential for Edwards as a defender, but he has to keep improving his jump shot. A 52.0 true shooting percentage definitely isn’t going to cut it for the expectations in the NBA of the first overall pick. Get better off-ball on defense and improve his shot selection, and the natural talent and two-way ability of Edwards could win the day.
