The original trade
A multitude of moves occurred during the 2016 offseason that saw notable former Bulls star players make the move to sign with the Knicks. The two former Bulls stars that are worth mentioning here includes Noah and Rose. The former of those two signed a contract out of free agency with the Knicks in the summer of 2016.
And Rose wound up landing with the Knicks as part of a multi-player trade deal that also saw wing Justin Holiday and a 2017 second round draft pick go to New York. What the Bulls got in return was veteran point guard Jose Calderon, fellow point guard Jerian Grant, and veteran center Robin Lopez. To say that the Bulls got mixed results out of that crew is an understatement too.
By this point, Rose only had one year left on his contract. The Knicks would not re-sign him during the following offseason, which goes to show the lack of longevity they got on their end of this trade package. And Holiday wouldn’t wind up playing in a Knicks uniform beyond the 2016-17 season either. He would actually land back with the Bulls the following season.
The final part of this trade deal was that second round draft pick in 2017 that the Knicks received from the Bulls. That draft pick wound up turning into former Oregon Ducks and Houston Cougars 6-foot-5 shooting guard Damyean Dotson. He might actually be the best part of this trade for the Knicks, which goes to show the wonkiness of this trade package for both sides.
