One rookie that is a major benefactor of all the opportunity for high usage at his disposal is the former Gonzaga big man Rui Hachimura. His team shouldn’t even come close to sniffing a playoff berth this season.
There were points when Hachimura was considered to be a potential top four pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. But lapsing performances down the stretch of his freshman season at Gonzaga combined with at not great draft scouting process forced his stock to dip. But the Washington Wizards still nabbed him in the lottery.
This pick of Hachimura is paying dividends for the Wizards so far. He is one of their few competent players on a team that doesn’t have a whole lot outside of star shooting guard Bradley Beal. So far this season, Hachimura is averaging 14.4 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists to go along with 51.8 percent shooting from the field.
Hachimura is also posting a rock solid offensive rebounding rate of 8.7 percent and has a surprisingly good percentage from the charity stripe well above 80 percent.
Where White could hold an edge over a player like Hachimura is with three-point shooting and assist-to-turnover percentage. Hachimura nearly has the same turnover rate as he does assist rate this season.
