Chicago Bulls Rumors: Bulls are drafting Chandler Hutchison at #22

According to recent reports, the Chicago Bulls have already told a certain player they are drafting him with the 22nd overall pick in the first round. That player is Boise State guard/forward Chandler Hutchison.

Many people were wondering why Chandler Hutchison chose to pull out of the NBA Draft combine. According to Aran Smith of, there were rumors that Hutchison pulled out of the combine because of a promise from a specific team that they would take him in the first round. The team that promised to select him was reportedly the Chicago Bulls with the 22nd overall pick.

If this is true, it likely means that the Bulls would be selecting a big man with the 7th overall pick. I’m assuming Mo Bamba is their dream scenario but he’s unlikely to fall to #7. If Bamba is gone, I think it’s safe to assume that Chicago will be taking Duke Center, Wendell Carter Jr.

This should be considered as exciting news for Chicago Bulls fans. Hutchison had a stellar senior season, averaging 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists for Boise State. He’s a volume scorer who should surely be able to step in right away at the Small Forward position for the Bulls. Also, at 22-years-old, there is little to no concern with his maturity coming into the league.

Boise State is not exactly a basketball powerhouse so many NBA fans haven’t seen Chandler Hutchison play. Here are some highlights:

He also had an impressive steal, save, and clutch fast-break layup against a solid Nevada team that made some serious noise in the NCAA Tournament.

Of course, if the Bulls are selecting Hutchison at #22, it almost certainly means that they aren’t looking to draft Michael Porter Jr. or Mikal Bridges (a couple of fan favorites). But many think that Hutchison will be just as good, if not better than both of these players. He’s just a little bit of a lesser known prospect.

Earlier, I said that the Bulls are likely to draft a big man with the 7th overall pick. While I believe this to be true, Bulls fans should be prepared for another scenario as well. There is the slight chance that they would gamble on one of the electrifying point guards. Especially if they aren’t convinced that Kris Dunn is their guy. Trae Young and Collin Sexton are guys that Bulls fans should be keeping an eye on.
