Tonight during the NBA Draft Lottery, the draft position of the teams in the lottery were revealed. In the 2018 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls will have the 7th overall pick.
The Chicago Bulls entered tonight’s NBA Draft lottery with the 6th best odds and an 18.3 percent chance of getting a top-three pick in the 2018 NBA draft.
They ended up getting the 7th overall pick which catapulted the Sacramento Kings into the top-three. It’s safe to say that Bulls fans can walk away disappointed after seeing this season’s tanking efforts resulting in the 7th overall pick. I, along with many others, had hopes of getting into the top five.
It’s likely that many of the players that Bulls fans hoped they would draft will be off the board by pick #7. Players such as Luka Doncic, Michael Porter Jr., and Mohamed Bamba will likely be unavailable.
Out of those three, I’d assume that Michael Porter Jr. has the best chances of dropping to the 7th pick due to the injury setbacks that he suffered during his freshman year at Missouri. If a team takes an early shot at Michael Porter Jr., I’d expect the Bulls to look at Mikal Bridges.
Bridges doesn’t necessarily have the high ceiling that a lot of these top prospects have, but his floor is higher than nearly every prospect. He’s a sure-fire starter in the league for years to come with his “3 and D” skill-set.
So even though it was a disappointing night for Bulls fans, it’s still important to remember that the young core of Lauri Markkanen, Zach LaVine, and Kris Dunn looked strong at times last season and adding one more piece might make a huge difference.
Markkanen was drafted 7th overall last year and ended up being a remarkable talent. Maybe the Chicago Bulls can find another diamond in the rough.
