Career Highlights: Derrick Rose began his basketball career in the very city he now represents: Chicago. He earned a scholarship to the University of Memphis where he helped lead the Tigers to a trip the NCAA Championship game in 2007-08.

Rose spent one year at Memphis but was plagued with academic controversy which ultimately ended up costing the university scholarships due to violations. Rose violated NCAA rules when he allowed his family to travel on team charter to games. There is also controversy surrounding Rose’s SAT scores, of which some believe his brother earned for him.

Controversy aside, Rose’s talent on the hardwood was undeniable. He was selected first overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA Draft. Rose didn’t immediately make an impact but he laid down and showed the tools needed to make an impact.

Rose improved his shooting each year posting a career best 25.0 ppg in 2011, up from his 16.8 ppg average his rookie year. Rose also made a serious All-Star bid in his second season, eventually earning a spot on the team in 2011.  Rose’s first two years were a build up to his explosive 2011 season which saw him be named an All-Star, lead the Bulls to their best record since 1997 and win the MVP.

There is even new rule called the “Derrick Rose Rule” which gives massive incentives and maximum contracts to players that out-perform their rookie contracts.
