The trade deadline is looming and a number of deals have already been made or are currently in motion. The biggest name to move at the deadline is likely to be DeMarcus Cousins. The trade involving Cousins is likely to produce the first of activities on the waiver wire, can the Chicago Bulls capitalize by adding one of those players?

All kinds of debris from the Cousins trade between the Sacramento Kings and the New Orleans Pelicans is washing ashore. The Bulls are likely to lose the rights to the Kings first-round draft pick, but there might be an opportunity for them to add a player by the waiver wire.

The Kings have already waived Matt Barnes to facilitate the Boogie trade, but there is the possibility that they will also move Langston Galloway or veteran Tyreke Evans, both acquired from the Pels in this deal.

Evans has already played four years with the Kings, the team he was with before joining New Orleans. Now, he’s back home. It’s unlikely that he’ll want to hang around in Sacramento, though he might not move until the offseason.

However, if Evans is available, Chicago should take a long, hard look.

It’s pretty simple, Evans slots in as a wing player. He’s capable, when healthy, of playing either the two-guard or forward. In the off chance that the Bulls move Jimmy Butler at the deadline, they could certainly use a stop gap at small forward as they transition into a younger, more athletic team.

Evans isn’t having a great year, he missed almost half of the season to date because of a knee injury. After getting healthy and returning to action, he’s found himself mired in the worst statistical season of his career. He is at an all-time low for points, rebounds, assists, steals, FG%, and minutes per game. He might be the perfect buy-low candidate. It’s hard to buy much lower than 25 games of a player on an expiring deal.

If Evans could regain some semblance of his career averages, he could do wonders for this Chicago team. Even if they keep Butler, which they likely will, he would be able to fill in for the recently absent Dwyane Wade. Wade, like Evans, has been victim of injuries and Wade missed the last several games the Bulls played heading into the All-Star Game. It may be slightly precautionary, but Wade has a history of injuries and missing significant time.

Having a player like Evans around for the home stretch and into the playoffs could make this team significantly better. If Wade goes down, if Butler goes down, he’s ready to start. If they stay healthy, he’s ready to bump players like Doug McDermott, Jerian Grant and Denzel Valentine out of the rotation due to their inability to perform.

Of course, Evans is much less likely to hit the waiver wire than Galloway and Barnes is already gone. Bulls fans will have to cross their fingers and hope that the Kings keep making bad decisions that benefit other teams.
