On Thursday, the Chicago Bulls announced their Las Vegas Summer League roster which includes Brandon Davies. The list was expanded to 13 players, including several players who are expected to play a significant role for the Bulls now and in the future along with a handful of longshots and D-League bound fringe ballers.

The Bulls will play at least five games in Las Vegas between July 9 and July 18 and the Bulls have won their first two games, beating the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers.

A lot of people may be familiar with names like Cristiano Felicio, but not everyone knows players like Aleksandar Marcius. Over the next few days we will give you the 4-1-1 on each of the players on the Bulls roster for Summer League.

Who: Brandon Davies
Position: Forward
Age: 24

Background: Davies was a four-year basketball player for BYU from 2009-2013. At 6’10” he fits the prototype of power forward. He didn’t have a stellar freshman season, but each successive season was a leap forward. As a junior in 2011-12, Davies averaged 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds and flashed some range for a big man by shooting 33.3 percent from 3-point range. As a senior, he had his best season yet when he averaged 17.7 points and 8.0 rebounds with slightly improved 3-point shooting at 35.7 percent.

In the modern NBA, there will always be interest in a big man who can score and rebound while stretching the floor all the way to the 3-point line. Davies falls in line with that because he has spent time in the NBA. Part of the misfortune of making it into the NBA was that it happened with early stage The Process in Philadelphia. That meant that the 76ers were bad and trying to get worse, signing and trading and waiving scores of players. Davies hung on for 51 games and 11.3 minutes per game. The following season, Davies got 20 more games in Philly, six of which he started and averaged 19 minutes. Then he found himself in Brooklyn where he just played seven games and only averaged 6.3 minutes. After the Brooklyn experience, Davies opted for Europe.

In Europe, Davies played the second half of the 2014-15 season for French side Elan Chalon. After that, he played the 2015-16 season with Pallacanestro Varese in Italy. Now, it looks like he is headed back to Europe for 2016-17.

Outlook: So all that brings us to the here and now. According to Wikipedia and RealGM, Davies is already signed on with top French side AS Monaco for the 2016-17 season. Assuming that this information is reliable, which I could not confirm via the AS Monaco website because I can barely read or write in English so understanding French is not even an option for me.

After two games of the Las Vegas Summer League, he is averaging 12 minutes with 2.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. I would offer that he isn’t a contender for a spot on the NBA team and that he ends up getting a shot with the Windy City Bulls, Chicago’s affiliate team in the D-League, but he has the deal in place to play with AS Monaco. Knowing that, the safe assumption is Davies just got the chance to play in case he captured lightning in a bottle and was offered an NBA deal. As that won’t be coming, enjoy Davies’ remaining games in the LVSL, you won’t be seeing him again for a while unless you’re a EuroCup fan.
