If you are a Chicago Bulls fan, this day might be a turning point in franchise history.
Especially if you based this on Pau Gasol’s performance against Iran in the FIBA World Cup yesterday.
On a day that the U.S. National team beat down Finland so bad that they needed to call 911 like Wyclef winning 114-55, Spain defeated Iran 90-60 on FIBA World Cup’s opening day. So the collision course between Team USA and Spain have started their course and it looks like the nuclear explosion will be in the Gold Medal game.
Look Iran had no more chance of beating Spain than Finland did beating Team USA. Spain was too strong and they brought their big gun to the game. They brought…
The Chicago Bulls starting power forward Pau Gasol.
Pau Gasol showed that he has a little something left to bring to the table in the Windy City in October going for 33 points in Spain’s FIBA World Cup opener. Gasol also hit the backboard too, collecting eight rebounds. The older Gasol brother showed his entire scoring arsenal as he led Spain who was without Serge Ibaka who sat out the game with a sore hamstring.
This just in to Pippen Ain’t Easy…Spain didn’t need him.
Pau’s younger brother, Marc Gasol had his brother’s back with 15 points and 10 rebounds further showing that Spain will be in the way of the U.S. in their quest to repeat as World Cup champions.
Mehdi Kamrani led with Iran with 18 points. Hamed Haddadi had a very strong game scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Even though it looks like a severe blowout with Iran getting beat by 30 points. Iran did themselves proud in this game. The Iranian squad did what they could with what they had. With only one player on the team with ANY NBA experience, they were competitive and hung around for a while before Spain pulled away.
Team USA needs to keep working and not fall asleep on the laurels of their blowout win. Sometimes that can be fool’s gold. Finland folded like a cheap lawn chair in the second quarter. Iran played with heart and spirit that played out to the end. Spain happens to have a frontcourt of Serge Ibaka being sandwiched by the Gasol brothers who can hang with or outplay USA’s frontcourt.
Well if you are a Chicago Bulls fan who has spent the entire FIBA World Cup experience worrying about Derrick Rose’s knees, take solace in the fact for at least one game Pau Gasol will be a factor for the Chicago Bulls this season.
Now Pippen Peoples you have two players in the FIBA World Cup to enjoy watching. But it’s going to very interesting to watch these two players if these two teams play in the Gold Medal game.
