Derrick Rose and Team USA: Reviewing the Exhibitions

None of these games have really counted towards anything, but the U.S. men’s national team completed exhibition play with a 4-0 record after defeating Slovenia 101-71 Tuesday in Gran Canaria, Spain.

Derrick Rose logged 20 minutes in the victory during which he scored three points, dished out an assist, grabbed a rebound and committed three turnovers. He went scoreless from the field after going 0-for-3. Rose played aggressively, though, as he got to the charity stripe six times. It’s also where he scored his three points.

Rose appeared in three of USA’s four exhibition games. He sat out the 105-62 win over the Dominican Republic due to “body fatigue” and “general soreness” as reported by the Chicago Tribune.

In the three games Rose appeared in, he averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 19.3 minutes. His best performance came in USA’s first scrimmage — his homecoming game. Rose started the game and contributed seven points in the 95-78 victory. He also added four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 24 minutes of action.

There hasn’t been anything astonishing to see from Rose, but he has shown he’s back and ready to play. It’s also no reason to doubt his ability to contribute once the FIBA World Cup starts up. His FIBA experience will also come in handy as he is one of three players to have played on the 2010 team that won gold in Turkey.

Rose and the U.S. begin World Cup competition Saturday when they face Finland at 2:30 p.m. central. The game will be televised on ESPN.
