Move over E’Twaun Moore rumors, Pippen Ain’t Easy has more Chicago Bulls rumors. ESPN Brasil is reporting that our Chicago Bulls have registered their interest in 31-year-old Leandro Barbosa. Barbosa is hoping his play in the FIBA World Cup will generate interest in him amongst NBA teams. After Saturday’s exhibition match against the USA in Chicago, it seems to have done just that.
Also according to the calculation of ESPN.com.br , Brazilian entrepreneurs, Jeff Schwartz and Sam Goldfeder, had a meeting with Tim Thibodeau, coach of the team in Chicago on Monday. Thibodeau’s assistant in American basketball team.
The coach of the Bulls used the friendly match between Brazil and the United States, the United Center in Chicago, to talk with the Brazilian player who has struggled with injury and appeared in just 20 games last season for the Phoenix Suns. – Gustavo Faldon, ESPN Brasil
Barbosa has been plagued by injuries the past several seasons but appeared to be his usual self during the USA vs Brasil match totaling 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
A career 39% 3-point shooter, I’d be much more comfortable using the experienced and play-off tested Barbosa off the bench then a young player like E’Twaun Moore or Jordan Crawford.
All free agents left come with some amount of risk. For most the risk is in their skill set or ability to play meaningful minutes. Barbosa represents a rare opportunity at this stage of free agency as he is a proven talent with a history of meaningful, impactful play on the court. The risk associated with Barbosa is one of health, and it’s a risk I’d be willing to take.
