NBA Rumors: Nikola Mirotic Heading to Chicago?

I’ve always felt that I had a lot in common with fictional legendary San Diego news anchor Ron Burgundy; we both love scotch, have an affinity for our cities, and lack the ability to speak Spanish. Luckily, many people can speak Spanish, and those thoughtful and intelligent individuals have been busy translating the latest tweets and articles to come out of Madrid concerning the possible future of Nikola Mirotic.

In the practical, there is only one sure thing: Nikola Mirotic will play for the Chicago Bulls next season
First came the article from Yahoo! Deportes detailing the fractured relationship between Mirotic and Real Madrid. Then, in a follow-up article discussing Real Madrid’s future the author dropped this bombshell on us, “En los aspectos prácticos, solo hay una cosa segura: Nikola Mirotic jugará en los Bulls de Chicago la próxima temporada.” For those mono-linguists such as myself, that translates to “In the practical, there is only one sure thing: Nikola Mirotic will play for the Chicago Bulls next season.”

But, before I had time to organize a welcoming rally for the young stretch power-forward, cold water was being dumped all over my parade. Various reports, including this one from Joe Cowley at the Suns-Times, were reporting that the Bulls were not yet sure what Mirotic’s plans were.

Was their honest confusion between the two parties? Were the Bulls, as they’ve been known to do, simply playing this one close to the vest and not divulging any concrete information? My interpretation of the situation, the Bulls know more than they are letting on, but at the moment, they’ve got bigger fish to fry (A reported midnight meeting with Carmelo Anthony).

Mirotic wanting out of Madrid would be great news for the Bulls. It was presumed, prior to these reports, that Mirotic would require some wooing ($$$) to leave the comforts of life in Spain. Now that his situation and relationship with the team is on the rocks, Mirotic may be more open to a smaller deal with the Bulls.

Mirotic’s addition to the current team would be a huge boost to our shooting, spacing and lineup diversity. I’ve been intrigued by Mirotic since we drafted him back in 2011 and am ready to have him stateside playing alongside Rose and Noah.
