Listen up, Chicago Bulls fans. Your long nightmare is almost over. Derrick Rose said at an Adidas event in Spain that he’s good to go and will be back opening night.
That’s not “news,” per se. Tom Thibodeau said in multiple interviews at the Las Vegas Summer League over the weekend that Rose would be back, and a more than 18-month rehab process would be absolutely unprecedented in terms of ACL injuries. But it is nice to hear it from the man himself.
Rose’s return simplifies the Bulls’ guard rotation by about 300 percent. Kirk Hinrich becomes the third guard off the bench, able to play either the one or the two, depending on the situation, although I really hope Marquis Teague gets a decent chunk of the backup point guard minutes. Jimmy Butler will start at the two and play the three from time to time, depending on the lineups.
All in all, we can breathe a sigh of relief and start getting excited about the coming season. Last year was rough, but we made it through and now we’re here.
