Chicago Bulls Pursuing Big Man?

Reports out of Miami say the Chicago Bulls are one of four teams — along with the Heat, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks — in the mix to sign free agent big man Lou Amundson, formerly of the Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Bulls have a need for an extra semi-serviceable big after Taj Gibson went down with a knee injury and with Nazr Mohammed and Vladimir Radmonovic proving to be absolutely awful. Amundson hasn’t been great in the last couple of years but a) anyone would be better than Nazr, and b) Amundson was a mildly crucial part of the 2010 Phoenix Suns, who rode a sturdy bench unit — and Steve Nash, obviously — to a Western Conference Finals appearance.

In order to have Amundson available for the playoffs, the Bulls would need to put in a claim by midnight tonight, but the signing couldn’t go down until tomorrow, when the prorated veteran’s minimum drops low enough for the Bulls to fit it under their self-imposed hard cap.
