The Bulls turned in a sloppy performance on Wednesday night but there were some bright spots to be seen in the win. After all, a win is a win as they say, and although it wasn’t pretty, the Bulls got it done. Let’s take a look at why that happened.
Let’s start with Joakim Noah, no surprise here he is absolutely killing it this year, having what looks to be the best season of his career. Tonight Noah is the top defender he scooped up 12 rebounds, managed one steal, two blocks and he forced four turnovers. Joakim also contributed 21 points, he has practically perfected his own unorthodox style of jump shots. His famous pistols were in full affect tonigh as he sealed a few crucial jumpers that kept us alive as we headed into overtime. Noah is off to a fantastic start, he puts so much effort and heart into everything he does on the court, he has really stepped up his game, I look for him to be a first time all star this year!
Carlos Boozer shocked us all tonight, he came up big time for our offense leading all scores with 28 points and 14 rebounds, not to mention he was perfect at the free throw line at 6-6. I liked what I saw in Boozer’s performance tonight; he attacked early, he was confident with his shots and he played aggressively. That is the Boozer we all expected to see when he became a Bull two seasons ago. Boozer is a hot and cold kind of player, one night he can shoot the lights out and score thirty, then the next he plays soft and barely manages two points. It’s frustrating to say the least, I’ll give booz his credit tonight, however we need consistency out of him.
If I had to give the game ball to anyone tonight, it would be Luol Deng. Deng played 46 minutes tonight, and put up 21 boards. Though he didn’t have the flashiest offensive performance tonight, he came up big when we needed him, firing up threes and grabbing up every rebound he possibly could. Deng never fails to show up big every night from offense to defense he knows how and when to provide, however the long minutes of play catch up to him and he’s too exhausted to be the go to guy down the stretch. We need him most during the game and it would be amazing if he could close out the games, something has got to give. Coach Thibs needs a little more faith in the bench so he can rest deng and have him ready in the clutch.
The game was a nightmare in the fourth it was silly that we went into overtime considering we had an 18 point lead. Phoenix figured us out and cut the defecit to one point, eventually tying it up at 100 a piece. The hero of overtime would be Rip Hamilton his long jumpers contributed four of the six points that gave us our 112-106 win. It was a tough toss up deciding who gets which game ball tonight, the challenge is always fun however giving out game balls will be a lot more fun once the Bulls figure out the fourth quarter stretch!
