Chicago Bulls (2-1) vs. Orlando Magic (2-0)
The last time these two teams met there was no Derrick Rose and the Bulls held the Magic under 60 points. This time around there is no Derrick Rose and the Bulls will be lucky if they hold the Magic under 90 points, as Orlando comes to Chicago with a hot hand and the Bulls are licking their wounds.
After starting out 2-0 for the first time in a decade, the Bulls dropped their first home game of the season to the Anthony Davis-less, Eric Gordon-less New Orleans Hornets. Chicago has had two full days to think about that last loss, but don’t expect violent vengeance like after previous losses. The lack of Derrick Rose will be felt in that aspect, because as much as the Bulls want to flex their muscles and rebound form the loss, without Rose that swagger is not overflowing.
There’s also a matter of the defense. As each game as passed, that Bulls have slowly allowed more and more points to be scored against them, as their average points allowed has risen from 86.5 points to 87.3 points. That might not seem like much, but we’re talking about a team that will be in close battles all year long, where every little point against them hurts twice as much.
Glen Davis enters tonight’s game averaging an insane 25.5 points per game, which means Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson will have their hands full stopping Big Baby. Luol Deng won’t have to worry about Hedo Turkoglu but Jameer Nelson and J.J. Reddick will both play and could both be bad news for the Bulls.
This Bulls team is one that will be up and down all season long, the only question is how high will the peaks be, and how long and low will the valley’s be?
