Sky lose seventh straight game as Liberty win 77-67.

The Chicago Sky lost their seventh straight against the New York Liberty at the Allstate Arena in Illinois tonight. The Sky are now 4th in the Eastern Conference right under the Atlanta Dream, Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun.

The top scorer for the Sky was Olympic gold medalist Sylvia Fowles with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 block shots while Shay Murphy contributed with 16 points and Epiphanny Prince adding 10. As well, fellow Olympian & gold medalist Swin Cash contributed with 8 points. The top scorer for the Liberty was Cappie Pondexter as she lead the liberty with 25 points.

At the beginning, the game was neck and neck with both teams defending well, however the liberty finished the second half with an 18-point lead. Chicago quickly cut down New York’s lead to six at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but the Liberty were able to reassemble themselves and maintain throughout the end of the game.

An incident occurred in the game with less than 5 minutes remaining, as Prince rolled on her right ankle. This was her third game as she suffered a broken foot injury in June against the Indiana Fever . She was taken of the court and didn’t return to play, however she stayed courtside till the end of the game.

Both teams shot the same amount of free throws, shooting 27 each, and had the same amount of assists, at 17, but it’s clear that the Liberty won by their steals and blocks, as they swiped 14 steals and had 9 block shots.

The Liberty & Sky met on occasion in this season as the Liberty have won now two of those three games. They will play against one another again on September seventh in New York.

Despite New York’s win tonight, they are still 5th in the East under Chicago. The Liberty has won 8 games and lost 13, while the Sky have won 8 games and lost 12.

Chicago’s next opponent will be the Atlanta Dream once again, but this time in Atlanta, tomorrow while the Liberty will play against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.
