Bulls 49, Pistons 41 — HALFTIME
So far Derrick Rose has managed to break out of the slump that saw him hit a career low in points against the Heat last Thursday as he’s already notched 12 points today against the Pistons.
But the story is on both sides of the court as Charlie Villanueva is going off on the Bulls scoring 11 points already on five buckets.
Joakim Noah has 8 rebounds for the Bulls as Chicago, despite the feel good game Villanueva is having, Chicago is containing Detroit and takes an 8 point lead into the half. It’s a game the Bulls need, not only because it’s an easy game to win but because although they beat the Heat on Thursday, nothing is clinched yet outside the division.
Miami won earlier today against the Knicks moving them 3.5 games behind the Bull. Should Chicago lose, Miami would be 3 back and next Thursday’s game starts to look more meaningful.
But if the Bulls keep playing the way they have in the first half then they should win this game and Miami’s matchup with Chicago on Thursday may be meaningless which would be nothing less of outstanding for the Bulls.
Second Half Adjustments
The question was how many minutes Rose would play since he was benched down the stretch against the Heat on Thursday. He’s already clocked 17 minutes and is projected to play 32 today but that’s not a number set in stone. Rose needs to be healthy for the playoffs and that means shaking off the rust. However, further injury would be devastating for the Bulls and that’s a risk the more he plays. Watch how much Rose plays in the second half and that will give us a good idea of exactly where he’s at in terms of his health.
