In an uncharacteristic move, Derrick Rose ran his mouth about officials and has been told it’ll cost him $25,000 because of it. The usually shy and quaint Rose wasn’t pleased with the calls (and non-calls) and let the world know it.
The fine won’t even make a key scratch in Rose’s paycheck. The $25,000 he will lose is nothing. Rose makes $85,289 per game. The fine will cost him 14 minutes worth of a check.
It’s the first time in Rose’s career that he has been fined.
“I’ve gotta be the only superstar in the league that’s going through what I’m going through right now,” Rose said, referring to lack of foul calls in his favor. “But I can’t say too much about it.”
Rose took a hard foul last night and got up slowly after. He sat out practice today at the Berto Center but head coach Tom Thibodeau is downplaying the whole situation.
“I think you guys know Derrick, Derrick’s not a complainer,” Thibdodeau said. “Usually if he says something, he has a point that he wants to make. I thought he was driving the ball pretty hard and didn’t get calls so he wanted to make a point.”
It’s just the latest chapter in the storybook of Rose’s injury riddled fourth season. He suffered Turf Toe in a game against the Timberwolves earlier in the year and missed significant time due to back spasms after that. Rose isn’t expected to miss Wednesday’s ūber-matchup against the Heat.
“I want to see how he feels after practicing today,” Thibodeau said. “But he went through everything in practice and he felt pretty good.”
The fine won’t faze Rose at all, if anything it’ll just motivate him in his crusade against the rest of the NBA who are failing to fully validate him as NBA Elite.
