NEW YORK — As the NBA All-Star rosters are being announced, there was little surprise. But just because there was no surprise doesn’t mean that having your point guard and face of your frarnchise named a starter is still an amazing honor.
Derrick Rose was named an Eastern Conference All-Star starter for this year’s game in Orlando. He will be joined by Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Dwight Howard.
This marks the third straight year Rose has been involved in the All-Star game and his second straight year returning on the All-Star Roster.
Rose has carried this team thus far this year but that’s not why he’s been voted in. He got voted in because the All-Star Game is a popularity contest and Rose is one of the most popular players in the league.
It’s semi-depressing to say that means more but Rose is brining national pride back to Chicago and if fans outside of the Windy City would rather vote his name then his stats, then that’s fine by them.
Bulls fans recognize what Rose really means. He’s not just the face of the franchise, he’s the soul of the city and that goes a lot deeper then his popularity.
