PHILADELPHIA — After getting the Bulls off to their best start in 15 years, head coach Tom Thibodeau is keeping the awards rolling into the Windy City. The NBA has named Thibodeau and Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks Coaches of the Month in their respective conferences.
The award comes less then a year after Thibodeau was named the Coach of the Year for leading the bulls to a 62 win season and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bulls are off to an 18-5 start this year which is their best start since the Jordan era, a time in Bulls history which continues to be referenced and matched.
Chicago currently owns the best record in the Eastern Conference and Thibodeau’s defensive schemes have the Bulls ranked second in the NBA in points allowed with an average of 87.4 ppg. However, as much of a defensive minded guy that Thibodeau is, the Bulls biggest achievement this year has been offensive rebounding. The Bulls are currently the best rebounding team in the NBA averaging 45. 3 per game.
Thibodeau’s Coach of the Month award means that the Bulls are well off on their way to getting the one award last year they didn’t get, but covet the most: an NBA title.
