That opponent is the Atlanta Hawks, hot off an upset series win over the Magic of Orlando.
The Hawks winning that series raises two huge questions, one of which pertains to the Bulls. One big question is what Dwight Howard will do about who his future as a basketball superstar is with. The question Bulls fans care about is are the Hawks really for real, and if Chicago struggled against Indiana, how will they stack up against Hotlanta.
As of the moment, the Bulls are the heavy favorite being that they are the number one seed. Atlanta, although they did look strong against the Magic, proved they couldn’t keep up with the Bulls in the regular season winning a late season game in Atlanta where the Bulls infamously melted down in the second half.
But Chicago is looking past that and are prepping for what Bulls fans are considering the first real series of the playoffs. They keys to success are the same, the layouts are the same and the results are expected to be the same as well.
The Hawks and Bulls met three times late in the season with Chicago losing the first (as stated) but stormed back to win the last to meetings by margins of 18 and 33. Atlanta may have gotten lucky in their lone win against the Bulls which happened to be in Atlanta. the second meeting in the dirty south was a 114-81 blowout win by Chicago.
If Derrick Rose, Jokaim Noah and company can consistently repeat their performance in Game 5, The Bulls might actually be able to dominate in this series they way they should have in the first round.
