LOS ANGELES – It’s that time of year again. The lights are shining bright, the masses are gathered and the stars are out in LA. No it’s not Christmas or the Oscars(yet). No it’s the NBA All-Star Game. And with it comes the festivities surrounding it such as the Skills Competion, 3-Point Competition and everyone’s favorite: the Slam Dunk Contest.
Derrick Rose is preparing for his first All-Star start and being the first Bull since MJ to be a starter representing Chicago.
The connection is not a coincidence.
Rose is also a part of the weekends other festivities. He will be competing in the Skills Competition with other All-Stars Chris Paul, Stephan Curry, John Wall and Russell Westbrook. Rose has participated in two previous Skills Competitions and this year marks his third straight appearance. Rose won the 2009 competition marking the the first time a rookie had won the crown. He won it with a spectacular double-pump dunk making his time 35.3 seconds. The Taco Bell Skills Challenge starts at 8:30 tonight with the other two big events the Footlocker 3-Point Contest and Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
