How Good Was the NBA in 1996?

All this 20th Anniversary remenicing has gotten me looking into the past at how the NBA used to be. It really honestly feels like a different game today then it was back then.

Even that term seems weird to say — back then. But the game feels different. There are stars, but they don’t seem to match-up with what we had before. The draft class is perhaps the best ever in terms of players that developed into superstars and champions. 5 of the top 6 players drafted ended up going to at least one All-Star game. Kobe Bryant, Peja Stojakovic and Steve Nash went back-to-back-to-back at 13th,14th and 15th

That good. That deep.

The feel of the NBA was different it felt like it was operating on it’s own, despite the fact it was a staple of ESPN’s SportsCenter coverage. Even that feels over done and over produced today. The NBA in the 90’s was the second renaissance of professional basketball in America. In my geeked out research I came across this video from PM Sports.

How good was the NBA in 1996? You be the judge.
