Watson would love to continue calling Chicago home. “There’s a real future with this team … it’s special.” said Watson in a real upbeat tone. “I’d love to stay in Chicago for a long time.” Watson isn’t just all about basketball. As I learned he is a very intelligent individual and wants to intelligence to be a goal everyone strives for in the world.

Watson's road to the NBA has humbled the young Bull

Watson majored in psychology at Tennessee and finds education to be just as big as athleticism. “Real big. At the end of the day, basketball won’t always be there.” said Watson taking a more serious tone. “If you’re not smart [off the court], it won’t show [when you are].” Watson wants to see as many smart young players as possible and thats why he has been so generous to the communities he’s been a part of. He was a very active participant in the Warriors community relations efforts, distributing free tickets to the team’s preseason games to fans at the City Center Bart Station. He teamed with Southwest Airlines to hold the C.J. Watson Essay Contest during the 2008-09 season, in which two fifth graders from W.P. Williams Elementary School, a school in Watson’s hometown of Las Vegas, were rewarded for their winning essays about an event in black history that they felt most changed or influenced America’s way of life with an all-expenses paid trip to Oakland to see a Warriors game. He has visited a local Boys & Girls Club, made an appearance at a session of Warriors Basketball Camp and took part in the Oracle Basketball Clinic at the Warriors Practice Facility. It’s safe to say C.J. Watson has an extremely large and generous heart.

But what may be the best evidence of Watson’s munificent heart is the foundation he and his family started called Quiet Storm. What Quiet Storm is, is a foundation that aims to provide positive educational and recreational opportunities to youths, particularly those who are disadvantaged. The programs encourage reading, distribute books and provides educational aid in the form of academic scholarships, and educational incentives such as books, field trips, tickets toys and so much more. It’s a really cool and important foundation that Watson one day hopes spreads throughout the world. It’s also something C.J. hopes will be his legacy, as when I asked him his answer was very to the point,  “Definitely.” Watson sounded excited when describing his foundation to me. “[Quiet Storm's] great, it’s about giving back.” It’s not hard, with his history of charity, to believe Watson would be so happy about something as special as Quiet Storm.
