The Ben Gordon Rumor Wheel Is Spinning

We pointed out Sam Smith’s post in our story about the Bulls’ guard workout yesterday. In Smith’s post –which is generating some buzz now — he mentions some Gordon rumors.

General Manager Gar Forman has not come off his stance that he wants to bring Gordon back. But I also heard that Gordon’s agent allegedly has been saying he has an $11 million promise from the Pistons… I’ve never fully understood the supposed Pistons interest. Not because teams don’t like Gordon. But because the Pistons have Rodney Stuckey, not a true point guard, and Richard Hamilton. Though the rumors supposedly are the Pistons would trade Hamilton. Though why trade a 6-7 shooting guard to accommodate one maybe a half foot shorter?

Maybe for the same reason they traded Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson? I’m not sure why Dumars would have an interest in Gordon. Dumars was an excellent defender on a team that won championships by punishing teams with their defense. Gordon is a terrible defender and an undersized one at that.

Maybe, just maybe, the Bulls were working out all those PGs because they want to retain Gordon and will deal Hinrich. That would be interesting because then their backcourt becomes even smaller, and potentially worse defensively. I can’t wait for the draft to straighten some of this out.
