Deng Not Needed Anyway
With Luol Deng still feeling discomfort in his leg, Coach Vinny Del Negro said that he may be done for the season.
“It could be [season-ending],” coach Del Negro said Monday. “You just don’t know how it’s going to react. We don’t want him to come back and really seriously injure himself. He’s still got discomfort and pain.
Del Negro also added this about Deng, who has been out since February 28th:
“Luol has the ability to give us a lot at both ends. It hurts our flexibility. Guys have to play extended minutes. When we get in foul trouble, it’s an issue.”
I’m not sure how it is an issue. They have Salmons and Tim Thomas to cover the 3, and Rose, Hinrich and Gordon at guard. Let’s be honest. Nobody misses Luol Deng. The team doesn’t because their performance hasn’t suffered. The fans don’t because Deng was having a poor season anyway.
This is the second straight season Deng will see a reduction in his overall numbers, as well as games played. With his contract and recent history, it would seem Deng will be a Bull for the long haul. I would shelf him for the rest the year and get him right.
